Ancient Ink. Future Skin.
古の墨、未来の肌。
Kurohebi was founded on a simple, immovable conviction: that the irezumi tradition — its dragons and serpents, its cherry-blossom weather, its oni and koi — survives only when it is allowed to breathe in new air. We do not flatten the past into nostalgia. We do not gild the present into spectacle.
Every piece begins on rice paper, in the hand of a master. It ends on skin, under instruments calibrated to the tenth of a millimetre. What sits between is dialogue — between artist and wearer, between a centuries-old grammar and a body that will carry it into the century to come.
Selected works, 2089 – 2099. Click any piece to enlarge. Filtering is curatorial, not exhaustive.
A long conversation. We listen for what the piece is asking to be — the body it will live on, the life that body intends to lead. No pressure to commit; many conversations end without a needle.
Drawn entirely by hand. We share progress in two reviews; revisions are encouraged early and welcomed late. The final design is yours regardless of whether you proceed.
The drawing meets the skin. We map flow with the muscle, the breath, the way the piece will move when you do. Nothing begins until placement is right.
Full pieces are completed across multiple sittings, weeks apart. The same hand begins and ends each work. Tea between hours; quiet, when quiet is what's needed.
Detailed care kit and protocol provided. Every Kurohebi piece carries a lifetime warranty against fade and line-loss; touch-ups are by appointment, complimentary.
Most pieces are booked 4–9 months in advance. We open the calendar quarterly, on the new moon.
